Perry is Perry is a Chicago native who was born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as shown in flashback) her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's early TV appearances. Fearing stress, her parents didn't want to see the actress pursue acting until turning 18. Perry was shy in high-school and did not act. She began acting in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends after she was transferred from Boston University. Perry started her acting career as an actress in New York after graduation, getting small parts on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry return to California and pursue a career as an actress in the theater. Perry was a part of Broadway with her mother in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. In the year 2015, she was alongside Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie. The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is located in West Los Angeles. Perry starred in nine episodes of the ABC drama The Family. Perry was a regular character in the ABC drama about politics Scandal which starred her father. She was also cast in The CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mother. She was cast in the role in spite of her strong family connection to the character.
